“Keep Waving”

  • “Keep Waving” - that’s Johnny’s line.

Johnny Carson is a social butterfly and enjoys pleasant conversation with friends and strangers alike. He is sensitive, kindhearted, and has a good sense of humor. His favorite topics include vehicles, sports, and weather - all of which contribute to Johnny’s reasons for waving.

Even though Johnny is on the autism spectrum, he just wants to be treated like everybody else.

  • Since he was a teenager, Johnny has been standing at his spot on the bottom of the hill, waving at all commuting on Highway 19. As the world shutdown in 2020, he was a beacon of light, hope, and community in the quiet town of Lonsdale.

His hobby on the hill quickly made him famous as he was featured on a local news station and unofficially the became the “Ambassador of Lonsdale”. Hundreds of vehicles also lined up to surprise him for his 20th birthday.

Just by watching, Johnny can judge how fast people are driving; see if they’re on their phone; and if they’re going to “light it up” with honk, wave, or both. That is what he enjoys it the most!

His waving hours abide by city rules: never before 7 am and no later than 7 pm.

  • Johnny has moved his smile and a wave from the bottom of the hill to the top; spending his days working at the Dollar General. He gets disappointed when he’s unable to be out here waving due to weather or other commitments. Even when he cannot be down at his spot, he is usually watching from the deck, waving.

Although he has his job at the Dollar General, his favorite and unofficial job will always be to offer a wave to anyone who drives by.

Thank you for the love and support of Johnny and his family!

Please keep in mind that Johnny has rules when he is outside. If any vehicle or person stops or slows down, Johnny must come into the house with no questions asked.
